Writing a Newsworthy Press Release

Writing a press release is often a good idea for many business situations. However, if your press release isn't newsworthy, it is a waste of your time to write it. If the topic of your press release is not innately newsworthy, you need to find a newsworthy spin to put on it. If you make your press release something that a newspaper editor feels will be informative or entertaining to readers, the editor will usually print it. Let's discuss some situations in which it is not too hard to put out a newsworthy press release.

* Research results are one of the easiest press releases to get published because quality research results are almost always inherently newsworthy. Just be sure to make your press release pertinent to readers.

* Contests or events being held by your company can be newsworthy if they can benefit the readers.

* Company launches happen every day. So if you want to make a press release for your company, make sure to describe why your company is unique.

* Product launches are even more common than company launches so it is even more important to show how the products are unique or offer a unique advantage.

* Website launches are only made newsworthy when your press release tells why the site is trendy or that the site contains some new benefit offered by your site that is rare.

* Upgrades are inherently newsworthy when they are free and a large portion of the population has the root item being upgraded. Otherwise they require a lot of spin to get notice.

* Awards are newsworthy press releases when you attach a small piece of human interest information.

* Executive changes and changes of ownership are newsworthy when your company has a bad reputation or is well known.
